Fashion Shows, Fairways & Everything In Between: My Summer Behind the Scenes at YourScene

When I started my internship with YourScene, I hoped to gain insight into what working in the events industry was actually like. From the very beginning, I was excited by how quickly I became involved, the responsibility I was trusted with, and the variety of events I had the chance to work on.
Having previously organised large-scale university events, I already knew how much work goes into making an event happen. Working with YourScene took this to an entirely new scale, supporting projects for major brands, charities, and organisations, each bringing new clients, different challenges and ways of working.

My first on-site event was the R&A Golf & Nature event in St Andrews. Across three days, I supported the YourScene team in delivering live shows, corporate dinners, cultural experiences, hospitality and production at the home of golf. It was an exciting introduction to the scale, coordination and attention to detail involved in events of this size and how much work goes into making the final result feel seamless for guests.
Pride of Scotland was another brilliant event I had the chance to be involved in alongside Sophie, Finlay and Oli. The evening celebrated some of Scotland’s most inspiring individuals and their courage in the face of life-changing challenges. I supported the P&O Cruises activation through client liaison and supplier coordination, and it was a very rewarding event to be a part of.
A particular highlight of my internship was The King’s Trust x Really Wild Clothing Fashion Showcase at Gleneagles. I had always wanted to experience producing a fashion show, so when Gilly and Louis told me I would be helping the team deliver one, I was so excited. Even better, I wasn’t simply there to observe; I was trusted with real responsibility and encouraged to play an active role throughout the project.
Working alongside Gilly, Louis and Oli was a brilliant chance to learn from their expertise and skill set, from creativity and quick thinking to the attention to detail needed to pull every element together. I supported the project across model casting and management, concept development, client liaison, supplier coordination, rehearsals, logistics and backstage production.
Being involved from the early planning stages right through to delivery made the project particularly special. I saw first-hand just how many moving parts sit behind a live runway show before watching them take shape in the Gleneagles ballroom.
On the day of the show, I helped coordinate the models and wider backstage team, keeping timings, people and production elements on track. Watching the finished showcase unfold in front of around 280 guests, as part of an event hosted by Ewan McGregor with performances from Sir Rod Stewart, Jools Holland and DJ Cuppy, was definitely one of those "how is this my internship?" moments.
Standing backstage and watching something I had worked on finally happen summed up so much of what I loved about the internship: the pace, teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and pressure of a live environment, followed by the satisfaction of seeing all that preparation come together.
The summer also marked a big change for the company, as YOURGB became YourScene. The rebrand happened during an already incredibly busy period, so it was interesting to see the team balance live event delivery with developing and launching a new identity for the business. Being there while the change was happening gave me insight into another side of the company, from the thinking behind the new brand to how it would better reflect the growth and ambition of the business.
As memorable as the events were, the people I worked with were what really made this internship. From the beginning, the whole team was incredibly welcoming and generous with their knowledge, advice and time. Whether I was in the office, speaking with clients, working with suppliers or on-site, I was encouraged to ask questions, take responsibility and get involved.
I came into the summer already knowing that I enjoyed organising events. I came away knowing this is an industry I would love to be part of. I loved the fast pace, the creativity, the huge variety and constant problem-solving, as well as the fact that weeks or months of planning eventually turn into something tangible happening right in front of you.
This internship has made me even more excited to build a career in events, working with brilliant people and brands to bring ambitious ideas to life and create memorable experiences.
A huge thank you to everyone at YourScene for making this summer such a memorable one. I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the industry, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.
